What is photogenealogy?

Photogenealogy is the art and science of
caring for, enhancing and sharing
your family history photos,
and creating a treasured and valuable photo legacy.

Photogenealogy promotes the study and preservation of
family history through photographs.

It combines photography with genealogy to uncover stories,
identify ancestors, and gain insights into the lives of people in the past.

Photogenealogy is an emerging field that uses visual clues,
historical context, and modern techniques
to understand and connect with family heritage.

Photogenealogy is a unique and powerful tool
for enriching your family history research,
and adding depth and emotional connection to the stories of the past.

Photogenealogy seamlessly incorporates
best practices and industry standards
from other disciplines to secure
and make accessible family history photos.

Once secure and accessible,
the photos can be used in Enhance and Share Projects.

How genealogy, photo management, archiving & digital asset management fit into photogenealogy

Photogenealogy has two parts:

1. Secure & Access
Gathering, digitising, backing-up and adding name keywords ensures family history photos are safe and can be easily searched for and quickly found.

2. Enhance & Share
A project-based approach to working with family history photos makes what might initially appear to be a huge task into a manageable and enjoyable process that produces meaningful and treasured results.
